About
I’m Joshua Thijssen, a software engineer from the Netherlands. Online I go by JayTaph.
I’ve been into computers since before I was 6. Not just using them — actually wanting to understand what’s going on inside. That hasn’t really changed.
I PEEKed and POKEd on a Commodore 64, tinkered with AMOS on an Amiga 500, and know what IDDQD does. I set up a BBS hoping someone would call — a few friends did, after some begging. I fell asleep to the glow of an IBM XT monitor. I got mail over FidoNet. I once sent an envelope with 25 guilders cash inside to get an internet email address. I’m fond of those days.
Work
I work mostly in Python, PHP, Go, and Rust. I’m drawn to the lower-level stuff — CPU architecture, assembly, compilers, operating systems, language design. I built a browser engine in Rust, emulated a C64 in PHP, wrote a PHP transpiler. Mostly just things I wanted to exist or wanted to understand better.
I run NoxLogic, a consultancy where I help companies with architecture, security, and performance.
Other things
I play poker. I used to be a technical dive instructor — trimix, rebreathers. These days I don’t get in the water as much. I started DJing in the 90s, club nights, hardcore and gabber mostly. Still do some streaming.
